I have this problem when it comes to posting my work.
Do I create a separate Facebook page solely for Dagorhir photos? (And if you don't know what Dagorhir is, read this post!) Do I continue subjecting my Dagorhir following to wedding and portrait work that they may or may not care about? Will some mundane potential wedding clients see Dagorhir work and get turned off? Basically, am I reaching my target market effectively? I am running a business here, after all.
I really want to keep doing what I am doing - that is, posting everything to the same website and Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr accounts (which BTW, Instagram recently updated their browser view, and it's purdy). It's easier to keep track of. Many Dagorhirrim have told me they enjoy seeing my other professional works, and if they do not, they can unfollow my page at will, and everyone is happy. If someone is turned off by my geeky hobby, then they may not be the right client for me, anyway. Etc etc.
So basically, I have been fighting myself on and off about this for a long time, unsure of how I should present myself and my work, and I have decided something: I want to be hired by nerds like me.
This doesn't necessarily mean people with fandoms that go to anime conventions and comic book stores and wear Tshirts with their favorite movie quotes; having a fandom does not a nerd make. I mean people who know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, that everyone is the protagonist in their own story, that there is no one definite way of doing 'life.' Perhaps 'nerd' isn't the right word, but I haven't thought of a better one yet.
What better way of presenting myself to this crowd than with Dagorhir photos?
