If you follow my Facebook page, you've seen me post a bunch of stuff recently from something called "Ragnarok." And, you guessed it - I don't know how, but you did - these two things are related.
Ragnarok is what we call a week-long event held in Slippery Rock, PA, every summer. Dagorhir foam-fighters from all over the country converge to battle by day and try to keep their stuff dry from all the rain by night... and sometimes vice-versa. Almost 2,000 people attended this year.
But it's more than that. I've developed what I think of as my Ragnarok Family - this group of people that I see only once a year, but when I do see them, it's like no time has passed. My unit, Gestiguiste, is spread across the east coast, and there are members we don't get to see very often - but at Rag, everyone is there, and it's awesome.
Ragnarok is a time and place for LARPers to LARP and everyone else to take a vacation. Unless it pours rain and your tent floods. Life sucks when that happens.
I'm lucky enough to be attending my first Pennsic this year, which is a bit like Ragnarok but much bigger. The Society for Creative Anachronisms is a huge organization that includes foam-fighting, but also so much more, and I'm super excited to get to know more about it.
