Thoughts I Had While Voting in the Shoot and Share Contest
March 3, 2015
So many skill levels evident during the first round, and I can clearly see my past photographer self in many images. This really is a journey, and I'm happy with how far I have come while still super excited to see where I will go.
Anyone can vote, here. They cut about 20% of the total photos every couple of days until they get to the finalists. I entered about 20 photos in various categories.
(That's my kitty cat! The only photo of mine I have run across while voting.)
Apparently guys playing guitar are a muse of many, and I am more than okay with this.
It doesn't take very long for newborn photos to all start looking the same. I really wish I could choose what categories to view! I would love to see more personal work. Speaking of, I need to shoot more personal work... I think I'll get on that this year.
I enjoy smokey shadows without a lot of definition. I don’t really care if it’s technically good.
Shadows in general are nice. I don’t like high contrast (some B&Ws seem to be an exception), overblown highlights, or too much photoshop. I really just don't like images that feel 'contrived.' Which is subjective and hard to explain and there are plenty of exceptions.
I like smiles; I don’t like when people look bored, unless the photo is making such a statement on purpose to convey a specific message. Smiles and joy! Yay!
Senior guys are usually depicted doing SPORTS or being portrayed as adventurous. Senior girls are usually obviously trying a little too hard to be sexy. Can we switch this up more often please?
I need more dramatic clouds in my life.
I freaking love tattoos. They are an amazing storytelling medium and always look awesome in pictures.
I learned a lot more about my tastes than I imagined I would, and I'm glad I entered and voted in this contest just for that! I have a bunch of stuff to work on this year and I can't wait to get started.
